 History
The King' Community Church began as a vision that several leaders in the Spokane area had many years before the church was actually formed. Their vision was a group of people through whom Jesus Christ could establish His Lordship in today's world in the annointing of the Holy Spirit. The community began in 1975 when Christian Fellowship, Holy Spirit Chapel, and the Brothers of Christ began to informally meet and worship together. In 1977 the three fellowships were officially merged into one and became known as The King's Community Church.. The leadership and structure were adjusted to enable people to function in areas where they were gifted and to improve the overall effectiveness of the community. David E. Knight, a former Episcopal priest who was touched by the Holy Spirit in the charismatic movement of the 1960's and a decorated U. S. Army chaplain from the Vietnam War, served as senior pastor until 1997. Under David Knight, house church fellowships were developed throughout the city of Spokane. Through his leadership, The King's Community Church worked tenaciously to build friendships and relationships with other church fellowships and ministries in the Spokane area. His vision for unity among the churches of Spokane remains a central part of the vision of The King's Community. King's Community over the years has served in outreach throughout the Spokane community as well as the nations. We have had the honor to serve the Lord in the countries of Vietnam, Haiti, and Chile. Currently, we are serving the Lord in the Philippines where we are supporting King Jesus Bible Institute and building The King's Community Learning Center and House of Refuge. In Kenya we are also supporting the ministry of Francis Bushebi who leads 350 churches in East Africa. In 1997 David Knight retired but still continues to serve the Lord as a house church leader and as a member on several boards of ministries in Spokane. His son, John Knight, has pastored King's Community since 1997 with the leadership of three elders; Lavaughn Stephens, Tom McGoldrick, and Danny Stutzke. Over the years King's Community has been influenced by the ministries of Ern Baxter, Bob Mumford, Charles Simpson, Derek Prince, Mahesh Chavda and Harold Eberle. On July 12, 2003 The King's Community celebrated 25 years in service to the Lord in Spokane.
